Jasper Morrison

In May 1988, the Italian design journal “domus” published an article on the young British designer Jasper Morrison.

A dozen of his works dating from 1985 to 1988 were presented, including a door handle. A rhetorical question asked in this article was whether the creativity of this London-based designer would survive long enough for his designs to be mass-produced.

We invited Jasper Morrison over to the Weser Hills not once but twice. During his first visit, we jointly manufactured the prototype model of FSB 1166 from his design idea. Then we cooperated with him in designing a completely new product family. The issue of materials was soon resolved. Jasper loves aluminium. He likes this material best of all in its natural silvery shade. Jasper Morrison emphasizes the aura of the utensil in his designs, opting for an unadorned style. It was no wonder that he presented us with a very unassuming product range. Should you find yourself exclaiming “I’ve seen that before” when viewing products by Jasper Morrison, then you have grasped the British designer’s philosophy. Morrison wishes to evoke in the viewer or user of his products an immediate feeling that they are trustworthy. This is just what design is all about: fashioning objects that are really useful.
