Advantages of Aluminum Pure:
Design with character: Aluminum Pure impresses with its subtly matte, natural look; architectural, minimalist, and built to last. In combination with exposed concrete and natural wood, Aluminum Pure reveals its understated elegance.
Each piece is one of a kind: ceramic grinding stones create distinctive traces and textures on the surface.
Saving resources without loss of quality: compared to anodized finishes, we save 37% energy by eliminating multiple production steps; without compromising quality or pricing.
Near-infinite recyclability without loss of quality.
Aluminum Pure blends harmoniously into any architectural setting.
Tumbling in ceramic abrasives gives the fitting its unique surface texture: visually subtle, yet striking to the touch.
A Design Statement with ecological benefits.
Material Authenticity as a Statement
Bringing natural character into the space: The unadulterated rawness of Aluminum Pure evokes a matte, almost archaic quality that shifts subtly depending on its surroundings. Its touch is soft and inviting, thanks to optimal thermal adaptation.
A perfect match with other materials: Door handles and window hardware in Aluminum Pure pair beautifully with modern interiors, raw concrete walls, and untreated wood, and grow more characterful with time.
Patina, by design: The surface interacts with light and evolves through touch. Without an anodized coating to seal it, Aluminum Pure naturally changes over time, especially where it’s handled. Architects already value this living patina from our bronze hardware.
Material Character with Environmental Benefits
Easier recycling: By skipping the anodizing process, we conserve water and electricity while also making end-of-life recycling simpler. Compared to our natural anodized aluminum finish (FSB 0105), this reduces energy use by 37%.
Lower impact than average: At FSB, we use only aluminum with a carbon footprint of just 4 kg CO₂ per kilogram which is one quarter of the global average.
The Aluminum Pure finish embodies our sustainability philosophy:
By eliminating polishing, blasting, and anodizing, we skip three energy-intensive processing steps. This not only conserves resources during production, but also significantly simplifies recycling later on.
Real-world example
Where modern material meets historic architecture.
Bauhaus Museum Weimar: Contemporary aesthetics for a Bauhaus legacy.
At the Bauhaus Museum in Weimar, Aluminum Pure reinterprets the industrial aesthetic of Bauhaus-era workshops. Architect Heike Hanada collaborated with FSB to create a custom version of the FSB 1147 handle, adapted to the proportions of the museum’s doors—a dialogue between historical design principles and contemporary material expression.
“Ich habe es einmal in die Hand genommen und ab diesem Zeitpunkt habe ich es nur noch für meine Bauvorhaben verwendet.”
