FSB + Les Couleurs® Le Corbusier®
As You Like It

Design and materiality are tangible for anyone who is “hands-on” themselves. But the eye also plays a role–after all, touch begins in the mind. With Les Couleurs® Le Corbusier®, FSB is opening up a new dimension of creative possibilities. Le Corbusier’s color palette, consistent for decades, gives each architectural project an individual aesthetic.

Experiencing Color through Touch and Sight

Le Corbusier’s Systematic Approach

Beginning in the 1930s, inspired by music and painting, Le Corbusier developed a system of 63 colors organized into 13 color keyboards. Rooted in his observation of nature, this chromatic theory explores the fundamentals of how we perceive color.
For Le Corbusier, color was not decorative, but essential to architectural design:

“Color in architecture is as powerful a tool as floor plans and sections. Or rather, polychromy is part of the floor plan and section themselves.”

His palette defines spatial identity, emphasizes proportion, and structures volume with precision: sienna grounds a space, light blue adds depth, pale green mediates between building and surroundings. Carefully calibrated brightness levels and tonal nuances form a color system that is deeply human and architectural in equal measure.

Color as an Architectural Element

„Color creates atmosphere, defines space, and guides the eye. Whether used subtly or boldly, it has the power to transform—and to make architecture truly visible.
The market offers countless color systems, but architectural quality demands more than arbitrary hues. With Le Corbusier’s Polychromie Architecturale, FSB offers a precisely calibrated palette designed to meet architectural standards. A color world that combines design freedom with systematic clarity.“

“At FSB, we see hardware as the point of contact between people and architecture. The encounter is tactile—defined by form and material. Le Corbusier’s colors add a visual dimension to this experience, a natural evolution of our design philosophy.”

Architecture en Miniature

The collaboration between FSB and Les Couleurs® Le Corbusier® opens up new design perspectives: door handles become architectural elements that respond intentionally to their surroundings—either harmoniously integrated or deliberately contrasting. We call this interplay “Architecture en miniature.”

Color Consistency

Les Couleurs® Le Corbusier® has established an exclusive partner network for interdisciplinary color design. With the FSB 1267 lever handle and the LS 990 switch series from JUNG, for example, doors and control elements can be matched both in form and color. Both are available in identical Les Couleurs® shades, enabling consistent design across different fixtures. Installed at the same mounting height, they create a precise connection between architecture and interior fittings.

Grasping Architecture—In Every Sense

We see our hardware for doors and windows as tools that extend the human hand. Using them is a tactile experience shaped by form and material.

But the eye is part of the process too—after all, touch begins in the mind. It’s only natural for us to complete this sensory experience with the colors of Le Corbusier, created specifically for the world of architecture.

In the spirit of Art Nouveau, which viewed the home and its interior as a total work of art, FSB embraces stylistic coherence in translating architectural and design principles throughout a building.

Just as the choice of color demands thoughtful consideration, selecting the right door lever should always take place in the context of its architectural and interior surroundings.

Door handles and light switches perfectly matched — inspired by Les Couleurs® Le Corbusier® for cohesive color concepts

  • Materiality

For more than 140 years, we’ve been refining our metalworking expertise. Balancing craftsmanship with industrial innovation, we’ve developed manufacturing techniques that deliver exceptional quality. Patented processes result in surfaces that are visibly and tangibly superior.
Our Les Couleurs® Le Corbusier® collection is made from aluminum and finished using a solvent-free, resource-efficient powder-coating process.

    Form Language

Our design journey began with Johannes Potente’s handform handle. Ever since, our “Four Principles of Gripping” have guided every design decision—a philosophy of architecture en miniature.
Together with renowned designers, we create connections between people and space. The Les Couleurs® Le Corbusier® collection brings proportion and color into perfect alignment—a design unity in which form and shade interact with architectural precision.

    Color

FSB is known for material-authentic finishes in stainless steel, aluminum, and bronze. With Le Corbusier’s Polychromie Architecturale, we expand this spectrum to include 63 systematically curated colors developed specifically for architectural use.
This system enables nuanced design decisions, allowing our products to enter into meaningful dialogue with their spatial context.
