Aluminum Pure: A Statement in Sustainable Design
With its new Aluminum Pure finish, FSB demonstrates the powerful impression sustainability can make. FSB is proud to be the first manufacturer to offer this distinctive surface across its hardware collections.
By deliberately omitting the final stages of traditional aluminum processing—polishing, anodizing, and powder coating—FSB creates a surface defined by subtle, organic character. The unique appearance of Aluminum Pure (FSB 0013) results from slide grinding with ceramic pellets: during several hours of tumbling, the untreated surface acquires a gently textured finish with natural irregularities.
Door and window hardware in Aluminum Pure harmonizes beautifully with modern interiors, exposed concrete, and untreated woods. Its tactile and visual appeal deepens over time. Without an anodized protective layer, the surface develops a patina in areas of frequent touch—a quality long appreciated by architects familiar with FSB’s bronze hardware.
Aluminum, the lightest of metals, feels warm to the touch thanks to its ability to adapt quickly to ambient temperature. Aluminum Pure adds to this with a soft, almost velvety tactile quality and notable resistance to abrasion.
This finish also brings clear environmental advantages: eliminating polishing and blasting prevents dust emissions, while the absence of anodizing reduces both water and energy consumption. Recycling at the end of the product lifecycle is significantly simplified. Compared to FSB 0105 (natural anodized), Aluminum Pure reduces energy use by an impressive 37%. All aluminum used by FSB has a carbon footprint of just 4 kg CO₂/kg—one quarter of the global average—and is infinitely recyclable without quality loss.
Effective immediately, FSB offers Aluminum Pure in three product lines, including FSB 1289 and FSB 1267. The latter pays tribute to the legacy of architect and Bauhaus director Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. His guiding principle—“less is more”—finds perfect expression in this sustainable, tactile finish.
