Bronze
Material with a Living History

A Classic in Contemporary Architecture

Bronze transcends its role as mere material—it stands as a witness to time. Over the years, our bronze hardware develops a distinctive patina, transforming each handle into a unique piece. This natural evolution is not a flaw, but a deliberately chosen asset—authentic aging in an era of replacement and impermanence.

Dialogue between Material and Space

Bronze creates a fascinating contrast in modern spatial concepts. While the material's material’s warm character evokes classical associations, it establishes a dynamic dialogue between tradition and modernity in minimalist spaces. FSB bronze hardware therefore excels not only in historical buildings, but especially in today’s architectural landscape as a statement of material depth and design precision.

Artisanal Perfection

For our hardware, we use a premium copper-tin alloy (CuSn8, 92% copper, 8% tin) distinguished by exceptional tensile strength and hardness. This composition makes bronze the ideal material for everyday products subjected to intensive use. The FSB 7615 (light patina) and FSB 7625 (dark patina) finishes are achieved through a specially developed process: after polishing, the hardware undergoes controlled pre-aging in an immersion bath—a method that mimics the natural aging process, creating a patina indistinguishable from one naturally formed. A final waxing protects the surface without compromising its character. Darker patinas are available upon request.

Hygienic Advantages

Bronze possesses remarkable bactericidal properties, increasingly significant in the context of antimicrobial surface hygiene. Clinical studies confirm that copper-alloyed surfaces eliminate 99.9% of bacteria within two hours—even dangerous pathogens like MRSA.

This natural antimicrobial characteristic of our CuSn8 copper alloy has been officially incorporated into US building guidelines by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) due to its effectiveness.

Living Material with Character

Through daily use, frequently touched areas of bronze hardware naturally polish themselves. Simultaneously, untouched portions develop an environment-dependent patina—a fascinating interplay between use and natural aging. This material-specific transformation is not a defect, but a desired effect.

The wax applied before delivery preserves the factory-created condition and delays natural patina formation during storage and transport. This ensures hardware arrives “fresh” at its destination, developing its individual patina only through daily use. The wax used is non-hazardous, biodegradable, and easily removable if needed.
