STABILO Cube, Heroldsberg
mvm+starke

The STABILO Cube in Heroldsberg is as bold as the brand it represents. Completed in 2015 to mark the company’s 160th anniversary, the new headquarters of Schwan-STABILO was designed by Cologne-based architects mvm+starke. While its dark exterior strikes a discreet tone, the interior bursts into color—drawing inspiration from the iconic hues of the company’s highlighters, pens, and cosmetics lines.

“From the beginning, we saw the bold colors of the STABILO BOSS as a central idea for the color concept. Orange stands for vertical movement, green for structure, blue for communication, and yellow for light.”

Michael Viktor Müller

Corporate Color, Spatial Clarity

While the black exterior gives little away, the inside of the STABILO Cube is alive with color. The three-story atrium glows with orange stairs, green ceilings and floors, and bright yellow light panels. Gallery-like communication zones are highlighted in blue, while the showroom—in STABILO red—occupies the ground floor. These colors, derived from the company’s product palette, define not only the spaces but their functions.

The upper floors host open offices, interrupted only by three enclosed workspaces. From above, the building reveals its rhythmic layout: irregular window perforations and staggered horizontal bands frame the green conference center and red showroom below.

Throughout, the building merges architecture with brand identity. Even the custom wallpaper features stylized forms from STABILO’s product range. A feng shui consultant advised the architects on spatial and chromatic balance. White surfaces calm the vivid palette, while gray floors and light-filled work zones enhance usability.

Feng Shui-friendly hardware

The handle model chosen for the STABILO Cube is as distinctive as the building itself: FSB 1146, derived from the FSB 1147 design by Ludwig Wittgenstein. With its curved silhouette and spherical tip, the aluminum handle not only suits the architecture’s minimal aesthetic but also meets the geometric criteria of Feng Shui. Various finishes are used: brushed aluminum for interior spaces (FSB 17 1759 027, 026, 72 1147 613, 619, and 79 1146 613) and black anodized aluminum for the exterior (FSB 34 1147 008).

The architecture and its hardware form a cohesive whole—each detail reinforcing the brand’s essence: clarity, color, creativity.
