Stretto House Addition, Dallas
Max Levy Architect

Tucked into the Texan landscape, a thoughtful new addition complements the iconic “Stretto House” by Steven Holl—a home composed like music, where concrete and glass follow a rhythmic sequence of flow and pause. The extension respectfully echoes this architectural symphony—confident in its design, yet attuned to the language of the original.

Familiar—yet reimagined

With its palette of concrete, brushed aluminum, and limestone and extended horizontal glazing, the addition engages in a quiet dialogue with its predecessor. Sightlines and daylight continue the house’s original intent: a fluid spatial composition where architecture and nature are inseparable. Rather than mimic, the new volumes offer a contemporary counterpoint—one that resonates with modern living.

For doors and windows, the architects selected the FSB 1076 model—a handle designed by O&O Baukunst and born of a deep study into historical hardware. With its gentle curvature and balanced symmetry, the grip feels intuitively familiar in the hand. It integrates seamlessly into the minimalist architecture, embodying the project’s central idea: that new design can extend the past without overshadowing it.

Whether serving as a visual link between old and new or as a tactile detail with timeless presence, FSB 1076 proves its strength. Like the Stretto House itself, it stands for the harmony of continuity and invention.
